After a 5 year absence, Wekfest came back to Chicago in an impressive fashion. Speaking to one of the organizers, Ken admitted that Chicago was the first shows he conducted outside of Northern California. By Wekfest’s standards, the 2011 event was probably one of the wekest in terms of attendance and participation. Since then, Wekfest has become a tour de force and has built a solid following throughout the US and Japan. Yesterday’s show at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center reflected the growth of Wekfest and it’s reputation.
We arrived at the venue around 645 am for vendor check-in and it took me a moment to take in the sheer size of the show. Originally, Wekfest booked one of the smaller convention halls not knowing what to expect. Within a few weeks of advertising, Wekfest realized that not only was this show going to be big- but possibly one of the better tours in terms of car entrants and spectators.
The show had a great variety of cars not only from Chicago, but other regions of the US. Iowa, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and even Canada came through. If you missed this event, you really missed out on one of the more unique and best organized indoor shows we have had in awhile. The crowds were friendly and vibes were excellent throughout.
Although it’s pretty late this evening, but I wanted to post up some quick shots for you to enjoy. Note, these are all in random order… We’ll have another few sets of pics over the next few days…
