We are happy to support Wekfest this year in Chicago! Visit us at the jdmchicago booth on April 24! Register your car ASAP- http://www.wekfest-usa.com/registration/ A few years ago the editor of Super Street Magazine asked me to shoot Scott Sengpiel’s Rocket Bunny 1993 RX7. Scott is an avid FD fan and I was surprised to hear he had another FD side-project in the works. Scott actually purchased this car back in 2012. Unlike the more street-friendly rocket bunny build, Scott’s intent was to make this FD a full blown road racing car. Scott sent me an email and asked if I could shoot this new project car for DSport Magazine. I was excited to work with him again, but unfortunatly we were on a tight deadline. If I remember correctly; we needed to shoot the car, edit, and submit all the photos within 24 hours. I wish I had some more time to work with, but sometimes you are put in situations that might not be the most ideal. The LS swap in the FD is not something new, but there are only a few LS FD’s that are full road race cars. Scott wanted to build a car that would be something that you rarely see at the road courses up here in the Midwest. The original plan from the beginning was to build an endurance road race car that would be fast and reliable. Racing and reliable usually don’t go hand in hand, but Scott spent a considerable amount of time researching and figuring out the weak points that needed to be tweaked. Scott is currently in the process of redoing the dash, pedal set-up, and seat mounting for better comfort. In the future , Scoot plans on adding some more front areo to the car to get the nose some more bite at speed. Thanks for checking out these bonus pics from Dsport Magazine! Be sure to check out Scott’s FD at events around the midwest this coming season. -jdmchicago Thanks to Patrick Lauder for these really cool shots of Nikki Dela Cruz’s Nissan 240sx (S13). The car was featured in Modified Magazine a few years ago. Not much has changed since then, except for the new Blitz Type 03 wheels seen below in these new shots. You can read more about the car by clicking here.
Hope to see everyone at tomorrow night’s meet! The meet goes from 5pm – 9pm. Check out the official facebook post to sign up! As always, FNL’s are always free to attend. Photography by Daean Chase. Connect to him also via Facebook. Kyle Roberts was not that typical kid who dreamed of owning a Lamborghini or Ferrari. Something about the boxy lines and lack of sex appeal struck a chord with Kyle. This particular FXT is actually Kyle’s 5th Subaru and quite possibly his last. Kyle knew that he would one day own a Forester, but it took several years of research and searching to find this gem. He almost gave up at one point; but as luck would have it, he was able to snag a relatively clean (and stock) example from Norcal. Kyle didn’t want to take any chances, so he booked a flight to San Jose immediately after the seller agreed to his verbal offer. He was also excited to finally take that cross country trip he had been planning for years. 2,095 miles later, Kyle arrived at home and started to modify the car within 10 minutes of parking. He had some LED’s laying around and an old shift knob that luckily matched the FXT’s thread pattern. Since then, Kyle has added a full Airlift Suspension system. He also went with SSR SP3’s and tweaked his alignment to get that perfect fender kiss. Some light performance modifications were also added to the car as well as some aesthetic dress-up parts. Recaro Sportster CS seats are one of the nicer reclinable aftermarket seats and fit his interior nicely. There may be some more subtle change later this year, but for now Kyle is fairly happy with the car and his choice in modifications.
