Mini Feature- Ricky’s Evo X

Ricky and I met up recently to take a few shots of his Evo X.  Coincidentally,  A friend and I had a IM chat the other day on the popularity of EVO’s in Chicago.  Many of them are modded quite well,  and this car is no exception- It’s a good balance of looks and performance.

It all started when Ricky was barely legal.  His dream was to own an Evo VII or VIII,  but settled for a TC when he first received his license.  Fast forward to today,  he opted to bypass the earlier model Evo’s for arguably one of the best models churned out of Mitsubishi’s factories- The Evo X.

Initially Ricky had a set of the ever popular Enkei RPF1’s.  After abusing them for several autocross events,  Ricky looked at upgrading to a different set of wheels and changing the direction of the car.  Pictured here are his newly acquired set of 18×10.5 +12 WedsSport TC105N with 255/35/18 Hankook Ventus V12s.   Purple Muteki SR-48 Lug Nuts compliment the Graphite Grey color nicely.

I know I have alot of close-up ARTSY shots of this Evo,  but shooting under different light conditions I decided to post up my favorite overall shot of Ricky’s car and some detail shots of his mods.  This way,  you aren’t distracted by a random set of photos.  Stay tuned (or as Ricky says “Stay Posted”),  We’ll release more shots of his car in the near future!  Pictured above is a short ram intake by Chicago’s own AMS.

Along with this ultra rare HKS D1 limited edition radiator cap,  he also went with HKS’ super sequential blow-off valve (Ver. II),  and HKS upper and lower intercooler pipes.

Ultimate racing catback exhaust along with their racing test pipes gives the car a nice aggressive sound without sounding overly obnoxious.

More impressive then Ricky’s car are those HUGE arms.  During the shoot,  he passed the time by bench pressing all three flashes at once.  Don’t forget that you can download a high res image by clicking on any photo above.

 E70 Corolla wagon

E70 Corolla wagon from the Fatlace Crew on a set of classic SSR MK wheels.

Yet another roadster in track livery.

Shakotan Style or inspired Toyota Corona.

Either this Celica is extremely small,  or guy in the Brazil jacket is HUGE.

With this many old school cars in one location,  you knew there was going to be a swap meet!  Need a lip? Look no further!

If you have a Datsun 510,  here ya go.

Front view of the Datsun 2000 we posted above.

Corolla Row!

A nice looking set of Weber Carbs on a 240z.

Fatlace Hakosuka now rocking a set of custom Work CR01’s.  I’ve chatted with Mark on the fender flares- he basically went with the widest ones he found @ Victory 50.

Immaculate interior of a Honda S800 roadster.

Meisters look good on everything!  This Cressy is no exception.

Yet another AE86 contingency….

Looks like two friends went with a theme here…. the Mini with the Brit flag and 510 with the rising sun.

Clean KA Swap,  not sure which car…. but based on the color I’m thinking a 510.

Closing up with a classic look Z in a burnt orange finish.  See below for the full gallery in high res.

Bayline Gathering (Part 2 of 3)

Here is part two of our coverage from Ethan Caldwell.  Hope you enjoy this second set! As usual,  click on each photo for a higher res image.

A Dastun 510 wagon sandwhiched by a couple of Z’s.  As mentioned before,  Watanabe’s seemed to be the dominate wheel at this meet.  The ever popular vintage TE37V’s on the S30.  Notice how the fender mirrors are slightly “misaligned.”  This is actually not a mistake and functional.  If you do ever see mirrors aligned perfectly,  they were done wrong.

Carbureted motors were of course the standard at Bayline.  I believe this triple carb setup was on an s30.  We should have asked Ethan to take notes!

Interior of a Kenmeri.  I like the GTR spec horn on the steering wheel.

Even the Brits decided to show up at this meet.

Really smooth looking Datsun 2000 Roadster.  Not 100% sure from this angle,  but looks like Panasport wheels.

JDM Legends GC10 Skyline.  Really nice to see the original honeycomb grill preserved.

More cars rolling in.  Looks like this is some sort of Datsun contingency/cult/crew.

Yet another super clean 510.  Major credit goes to the owner for keeping this Datsun in tip-top shape.

You don’t really see these too often.  This is the Mazda Rotary pickup, aka REPU.

Rear detail shot of the Kenmeri.

Rear of Eric’s C10.

Army green 510 on Work Equip’s 03’s.

A closer look at the front end/wheels.

Looks like a tsurikawa aka subway hand grip on the back here.  This is a typical bosozoku style which was traditionaly placed on the rears of SLAMMED cars.  This s30 has a some ways to go to really capture the true spirit of this look.  But nonetheless,  super clean car!

Part III coming up Tuesday!

Bayline Gathering (Part 1 of 3)

July 1,  2012-  As fans of vintage Japanese vehicles,  we’ve really kept an eye on Northern California which has been hosting some really impressive vintage Japanese car meets.  This past weekend was no exception with the highly anticipated Bayline Meet at San Leandro Marina in San Francisco.  The goal of this event was to assemble as many vintage skylines as possible in one arena.  Successful by every account,  around a dozen or so skylines ended up coming out to make this event the largest assemblage of vintage Skylines in North America.  Along with over 100 other Japanese vintage cars,  Bayline gave other vintage shows a run for their money.   We’ve compiled  Ethan Caldwell’s coverage into three parts.  With over 100 pics over the next several days to go through,  let’s go ahead and get started.  Oh,  and as usual… click on each photo for a higher image!

Nothing like catching a few cars during roll-in.  Nice Datsun 510 with what we hope are authentic SSR Hayashi Streets.  Of course an S30 creepin in the background.

Speaking of S30’s,  I’m diggin the meaty tires along with the super aggressive fender flares.

Several vendors were in attendance.   JNC had several items to choose from including the vintage barrels shirt shown above.

Patrick Ng’s Toyota Corolla TE27’s looking as clean as ever.  Don’t forget to check out our feature of this car by clicking here.

Vintage Skylines owners from Norcal,  Socal,  and Utah…

Perhaps one of the more “newer”  vintage cars,  this AE86/Trueno looked pretty fresh on SSR Longchamps.

This Datsun 1600 Roadster looks almost too pristine…. and it’s for sale if anyone is interested.

Drop dead sexy 1971 Skyline 2000GT with a GTR conversion on 14″ Watanabe’s .  You really don’t see too many Hakosuka’s in black,  but man is this color perfect.

R30 RS-Turbo Skyline,   aka “Tekkamen.”

Ryan from JDM Legend’s  4 door GC10 Skyline.

Another lovely s30 in a banana yellow finish. Watanabe wheels were obviously abundant at this meet. The classic 8-spoke designs have been in production since 1968 if you can believe it.

Eric’s 1970 Skyline 2000GT with the typical GTR conversion.  The Hakosuka GTR’s never had front flares in case you’re wondering .

A super clean C110 skyline,  aka the “Kenmeri.”  The Kenmeri or “Ken and Mary,” moniker stems from a Japanese advertising campaign during this era.  Two actors,  dubbed Ken and Mary were featured in ads for this particular generation.  Interestingly enough,  the original actress who played Mary was at the event giving out autographs.  How they found her is an amazing story in itself.

Incredible RX2 in minty fresh condition.   Be on the look out for Part II on Monday.
