Honda Tuning Magazine- Bonus Shots

Congrats to Justin for getting his CRZ featured in Honda Tuning Magazine. Although I shot the car back in March of 2012, the issue just dropped in the current April 2013 issue. In case you are wondering, it’s not very uncommon for a magazine to delay a feature as layouts/etc. are planned months in advance.

Justin's CRZ

Completely C-West’d out, including front bumper, side skirts, and rear half spoiler.

Interior shot I thought came out pretty cool.

Photographer Spotlight

As a freelance photographer,  I’ve had the opportunity to work and meet other photogs in the industry.  Most of the guys are really humble and I wanted to showcase an up-and-coming talent who I feel you should know. When someone picks up an import mag,  seems like most people just look at the photos and then reads the article. This is actually the opposite of what I normally do. I first look to see who wrote and took the photographs, before I read a feature. Matthew Jones is one name that constantly pops up. I’m very picky with what photos I run on JDMC, so was pretty stoked to get this set from Matt. All of these are either un-released shots, or some of Matt’s more favorite photos. Enjoy!

RC Beautiful 2004 Evo VIII. Excellent build and pretty much ARC everything.

MJones_JDMC-10

Rear shot of the Evo, functional fitment with Volk TE37 SL’s.

1993 RX7 Featured in the January 2013 issue of Import Tuner. Nice set of Bride Lo Max carbon Kevlar front seats.

MJones_Miata

Love this rig shot of this aggressive ’92 Mazda Miata. Check out the Feb issue of Import Tuner for more info on this car. The engine bay alone is worth the price of the magazine. Nice choice on the 15×9 -18 Work Meister CR-01’s.

MJones_JDMC-13

Team Emotion DC5 owned by Joe Cooper. Nice attention to detail with all the blue components and even matching Keys! Racing steering wheel in blue stitching. Car is being completely redone and look out for a new look in 2013.

MJones_JDMC-14

I’m convinced that Enkei Enkei NT03 are one of the more under-rated wheels out there.  These days seems like everyone who owns Enkei’s are rocking RPF1’s. The white calipers on this white Sti really pops against the dark finish of the wheels.

MJones_JDMC-7

Maybe sacrilegious in some eyes, but this sti achieves it’s ride height via a full set of airbags. We’re seeing more performance oriented cars embracing bags as opposed to your traditional coilover system. Not all show though, 451whp, with 401 lb-ft torque.

MJones_JDMC-9

Very clean EK featuring a boosted K20.

MJones_JDMC-5

Static shot of the EK on Mugen MF10L’s.

MJones_JDMC-4

Before I purchased my NSX, I drooled over the Jade Crew NSX pictured above. Love the composition of this shot and background. I’ll check with Matt to get a few wallpapers of this shot.  In case you are wondering, this is a 1995 NSX-T on a rare Route KS widebody kit. Wheels are the ever-classic Volk GT-S.

MJones_JDMC-3

2002 Subaru Impreza WRX featured on the January cover of Modified Magazine. Team Emotion reppin’ hard!

MJones_GinashRevised

This Z33 ruffled some feathers last year as the trusty VQ was replaced by a 2JZ motor.

MJones_JDMC-2

Matthew had the opportunity to visit Hong Kong several years and snagged a few cool shoots while he was out there. This is a JUN DC5.

MJones_JDMC-11

The AE86 reminds me of Louis’ Corolla, but this one hails from Hawaii.  Love the really aggressive longchamps.

MJones_JDMC-6

Really nice motor shot of this ’94 EG featured in Honda Tuning Magazine. I remember this car in print, as the owner pretty much had every possible option offered by Spoon.

MJones_JDMC-1

Last but not least, this is another shot Matt took in Hong Kong of a CTR. I would say it really launched his career as the shot was chosen by Honda Tuning for their monthly photo contest. Coincidentally, that’s how I also started to shoot for HT.  So if you’re a freelance photographer, send in those pics because you never know what could happen!

THE RETRO CAR KINGS

When I first heard about “The Retro Car Kings” back in December, I was in utter disbelief after viewing the trailer. Being a huge fan of the vintage car culture in Japan, the news of this show was equivalent to hearing that Top Gear was coming to the US. However, unlike Top Gear USA, the Retro Car Kings actually delivers.

The Retro Car Kings gives you an inside peak at the work, and philosophical differences of the various vintage restoration shops in Japan such as; RWB, TA-Auto, Star Road, Rocky Auto, and more. Excited yet? Well, the bad news is that Retro Car Kings only airs on Discovery Japan. Special thanks to my friend Jim who found episode 1 on Vimeo. Enjoy!

Edit 2/23/13: Since we posted this vid here, a ton of blogs picked it up and looks like the Vimeo link is down. Here is the youtube version:

Jay’s 2009 Nissan 370Z Nismo Edition

Most of the time, we get to watch cars slowly evolve, as our friends and colleagues continuously add quality parts and build their perfect car. Other times, a build comes roaring out of nowhere and takes us all by surprise. Jay Jancetic’s 2009 Nismo Edition 370Z is one of those builds. Jay picked the car up in the Spring of 2011 and wasted no time sending the car over to the Z fanatics at Project X to get his dream build started. His first summer with the car was spent getting his stance just right, picking out his perfect wheels, and planning. Jay’s plan was to surprise everyone with one of the best built 370Z’s in the country. 2012 was spent building the car with that goal in mind. Currently the car is running in the 500-600WHP range while breaking in the motor, and the next step is to turn the boost up to an easily supported 800+ WHP. With a plethora of high quality and unique parts, it looks like few could argue that Jay has indeed reached his goal.

Jay chose the Nismo Edition 370Z over its regular brethren for a number of reasons. Primarily, though, the fact that it came with great looking functional aero and suspension upgrades sealed the deal.

The custom built Project X skateboard rack is more than just a hipster addition. Jay parks his Z eight blocks from his home in the city, and uses his skateboard to commute around the area. Something was needed to keep the board from sliding all over the car!

Stance coilovers, SPC camber components, and massive 20×10/20×11 Work Gnosis GS2 wheels wrapped in 275/295 Hankook Ventus V12 tires keep this Z planted to the ground and looking great. Click here for a 1920×1080 wallpaper

Status seats and harnesses nestled into the 4point roll bar keep Jay safe and secure in his car, no matter what he is up to.

The extremely rare Ings+1 Z Power dry carbon GT Wing rounds out Jay’s aero package. This is the only dry carbon Ings+1 wing ever imported into the United States, not just for the Z, but for any vehicle.

The heart of Jay’s build is a fully built GTM twin turbo VQ37 powerplant, fully wire tucked, and placed into a shaved engine bay, color matched to his brakes. This attention to detail can be found throughout Jay’s 370Z.

WP Pro brakes consisting of 6 pot front calipers and 4 pot rear calipers, resting on massive 385 MM rotors all around, eliminate the brake fade common to 370Z’s.

The command center of Jay’s 370Z shows his affinity for clean and functional upgrades. A custom mounted Zeitronix gauge set up, his coveted Tommy Kiara “Hebi Bebi” shift knob, and many other quality modifications connect him to his machine and add to his driving excitement.
